A committed Christian who was hostile to the Church of England (indeed, to almost all forms of organised religion), Blake was influenced by the ideals and ambitions of the French and American revolutions. In fact, he has been said to be "a key early proponent of both Romanticism and Nationalism". His paintings and poetry have been characterised as part of the Romantic movement and as "Pre-Romantic". Īlthough Blake was considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, he came to be highly regarded by later critics and readers for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. While he lived in London his entire life, except for three years spent in Felpham, he produced a diverse and symbolically rich collection of works, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God" or "human existence itself". In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. His visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". What he called his " prophetic works" were said by 20th-century critic Northrop Frye to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". Largely unrecognised during his life, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual art of the Romantic Age. I have found that as I don't have to press as hard on the paper, I can relax my grip and hopefully that will stop the pain in my hand.William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. I have found that as I don't have to press as hard on the paper, I can relax my grip and hopefully that will stop the pain in my hand. I have even bought an "ergonomic" ballpoint pen in the past, it was an odd shape & I just couldn't get used to it. When writing with ballpoints I find that I hold them with a bit of a "death grip" and use too much pressure which means my hand ends up hurting. The Wordsworth & Black pen is smooth to write with, requires surprisingly little pressure for the ink to flow and it is easy to refill. My fiancé asked me why I didn't splash out on a high end brand of fountain pen but a.) they don't do them in purple and b.) I would worry even more about it going missing! The pen is a lovely shade of purple with silver trim, it feels nice to hold and it comes in a presentation box that makes it appear much more expensive than it actually was. Since receiving my pen, I filled it with some nice Waterman Tender Purple ink and I have been using it every day. In the past I have found fountain/cartridge pens to be scratchy and messy, often getting ink all over my hand. I haven't used a fountain pen for approximately 20 years, and as I am also left handed my previous experience wasn't always a good one. I'm a teacher and as I am concerned with the use of disposable plastics I thought I would start using a fountain pen to do my school work and marking.
